A lot of people do not care much for their posessions. They take them for granted. They took the fact they keep them for granted, too.
Wormwood was about to disabuse someone of that notion.
In movies, you often see how someone runs into his target, excuses himself, the turns a corner and checks his loot.
That carried a risk, of course. By running into someone, you drew their attention. The highest form of this art was to not be noticed at all. But since he retur- came back, the fear of police and law just wasn't the same anymore. More of an inconvinience than a fear, really. This latest adventure, the Firestorm expedition, only made him recall the fear of Fairy even stronger.
So the idea of taking someone's money to go out didn't phase him in the slightest, and he was as relaxed as a purring kitten.
He was lucky, tonight, too. After some looking around, a well-deserving target appeared. There was someone who had his wallet in the back pocket of his jeans.
In the middle of a crowd. In New York. In the evening. Was this guy begging to be robbed?
Pushing him at just the right moment, he made him stumble and collide with someone else, just as he took the wallet. With just a sidestep, he was gone: part of the crowd, flowing from A to B. To others, it must have looked like he stepped aside to not run into that clumsy idiot with the coffee. By the time his mark noticed the missing wallet, he was on the other side of the block.
Casually, he pulled the wallet out and checked the contents. They elicited a surprised whistle.
Nice! After being relieved of money and anything that looked like it could be sold on the blackmarket or used as material for forgery, the wallet was dumped in a bin.
It was a nice night out, as he enjoyed expensive foods and wine. Oh, he loved the wine. It had been so long since he had good wine.
As he counted the rest, he considered what to do with it.
Well, there's still pizza for Melody on the table, and it wouldn't hurt to get on the good side of Dawn... On the other hand, I could use another knife or some new tools...
